A little reminder for the New Year...
Your time is yours and cannot be replenished. Be careful how you spend it.
Good morning, friend. I hope I’ve caught you in your morning sift. No doubt you have an inbox full of emails from the holidays you’re trying to read and process like a triage nurse on July 4th.
I just wanted to share a small nugget of wisdom from a book I have by my bed called “On The Shortness of Life”, written by Seneca. It covers the lessons we learned on Day #4 about to whom you give your time— that non-renewable resource we so easily waste. “Life is long if you know how to use it.” is probably his most famous phrase. He writes about how easily we waste our limited days:
“You are living as if destined to live forever
…You don’t notice how much time has already passed, but squander it as though you had a full and overflowing supply - though all the while that very day which you are devoting to somebody or something may be your last.
Seneca, On The Shortness of Life
Before you get dragged back into another relentless year of your email inbox becoming a to-do list written by someone else, take a moment and be mindful of just what you’d like to spend your time on. Be vigilant.
Yes, work is work. A job is a job. But when the hour arrives when you are not required to be doing your job, stop.
When a request lands in your inbox for your time and attention does not serve your Big Why, you know the magic word…
Happy New No Year.
Your friend,
Jason
Thanks for the booster shot, and a very happy 2024 to you
