A little reminder for the New Quarter...
Some timeless advice from Cal Newport on how to get better at Saying "NO".
Good morning, friend. I hope I’ve caught you in your morning sift. No doubt you have an inbox full of emails from the Easter holidays you’re trying to read and process like a triage nurse on the 4th of July.
I just wanted to share a small nugget of wisdom from an interview with Cal Newport, author of Deep Work, Digital Minimalism, A World Without Email, and his new book Slow Productivity. He’s talking here about ‘how’ to say NO, but also many other useful tips. You may recognize a few from your learnings during NOvember. (Start around the 53:00 minute-mark.)
Before you get dragged back into another relentless quarter of your email inbox becoming a to-do list written by someone else, take a moment and be mindful of just what you’d like to spend your time on. Be vigilant.
Yes, work is work. A job is a job. But when the hour arrives when you are not required to be doing your job, stop. When a request lands in your inbox for your time and attention does not serve your Big Why, you know the magic word…
Your friend,
Jason
